Aims and Intentions: How did it start?

A first-hand view into the party life of todays of today’s youth, is our future safe in their hands?

This documentary will be presenter lead, therefore the majority of the clip will consist of diegetic sounds, however there will be short series of non-diegetic sounds where the camera will be panning around to give a sense of locations and settings where the presenter will be doing a voice over and sharing information and facts. There will also be a series of 3-4 interviews. the majority of camera work will be a standard format focusing on the presenter following him around, however the camera will be used in various ways to give a sense of location and setting, a range of shots including close ups, and medium close ups to focus on people within the documentary and props used.

I will construct representations of individuals and a select group of the British youth through specific choice of costumes, the way the cast will be dressed will be very stereo typical to a teenager that is always going out regularly, drinking, smoking and possibly doing drugs. The main focal point that will construct representations is the actions of the cast in the documentary, the use of drugs and excessive smoking, and how these actions construct the representation of a specific group within British culture.

I will reach the target audience mainly through the topic chosen, as it is on unveiling the secrets of the British youth and seeing things from their perspective it should really attract the attention and views from the intended audience of parents. Any parent that is concerned about their kids welfare and what they're getting up to in their own time will be interested and intrigued by this documentary and will watch it.

I have done some research into the channel 5 commissions and what they’re looking for is “Broad, robust documentary series for 9pm with clear irresistible proposition and intelligence at its heart”, my documentary will be reporting on the harms and danger of smoking and the use of drugs so not only is it giving information and new knowledge to viewers but is also raising awareness to the matter and making people aware of the helplines there are, but that is only this one specific episode. Each week the documentary will be reporting on a different major problem.

This cross media production will demonstrate digital convergence through multiple factors, firstly being the title, the title at the opening of the documentary will have an iconic font and colour that instantly grabs the viewers’ attention, and this title will also be on the front cover of the magazine, big and vibrant to grab attention immediately. The documentary also has a reporter that is sent on a journey each episode and the viewer is sent on the journey with him/her therefore the viewer begins to really like this reporter as they have quite a large, easily likeable personality, there will be a picture of the reporter on the front cover of the magazine to also demonstrate digital convergence.
